Extract from Trinity Old Scholars Newsletter December 2005

Here’s some news worth repeating from Sandra Burford (nee Rawle) 1954 who moved and is now living permanently in Florida.

She writes: Recently spent Thanksgiving with my old school friend Jacquiline Guffey (nee Smith). Jacquiline is living in Tampa Bay in Florida and I now live only about an hour away in Lady Lake. Thanks to Richard McDermot who helped me trace her. I managed to find Jacquiline because Richard told me that he had heard she had married and now lived in Tampa. That helped but as her surname, when I knew her, was Smith that proved an impossible task. However he was still in contact with a neighbour of her parents. They said her mother had moved to Tampa with her but had died in Tampa the previous year. I then used the internet to scan all the obituaries in the Tampa newspapers for the previous year and eventually found her. Jacquiline was mentioned with her new surname as the surviving daughter. I then asked an old boyfriend, who lives in Tampa, to look through the telephone directory and hey presto that’s how we met up.

How I found the old boyfriend is another story!!

May 2008 Sandra writes :

Jacquiline and I have met up on a number of occasions since we originally got in touch. She has visited me here in The Villages and I have spent Thanksgiving with her and her family and Mike and I were invited to her wedding. Jacquiline had been a widow for a number of years. The wedding took place in a small church which was like a floating ferry. We set off from the harbour at Clearwater in Florida out into the bay where the ceremony took place. Jacquiline and her husband Glenn then hosted a catered reception for about seventy people at their home in Tampa. It was all beautifully and tastefully done with everyone enjoying drinks and dancing round the pool late into the night.

We have been trying to arrange for them to visit us again soon as they were thinking of purchasing a home in this area when Glenn retires. This of course may change now as I think Jacquiline is involved with looking after grandchildren. Like me, Jacquiline's grandchildren are all just babies so it is hard to leave them.
