Dear Friends,
Firstly, many thanks to all those who have supported us by becoming “paid-up” members of the Association.  We are pleased to announce that there are now over 100 members and by reducing the number of unwanted and probably unread letters, we are able to send you news on a more regular basis.
Many of you have asked if you can pay by Direct Debit. Unfortunately, the Association will have to pay 32p for every Direct Debit transaction. This is not cost effective. You can, however, arrange a Standing Order at your Bank at no cost to you or TOSA. Details can be found at the end of this newsletter.
Now to the more important things.
Newsletters
December 2005
Welcome to the first newsletter from your Ad-hoc Committee.
Events.
The 46’ers are celebrating their 60th Anniversary of joining Trinity at a luncheon at the Comet Hotel, Hatfield on the 29th April. Contact either John Glyn on 01372 802576 or Margaret Driscoll on 01327 350283 for further details.
The Bournemouth reunion (Any year) takes place on the same day at the Woodcroft Tower Hotel. Contact Vic Manning on 01892 823945 or Mrs Jill Deamer on 01305 832597.
A special mention here about Jill. She is not an Old Scholar.  However, her late husband Lee (1935) was instrumental in getting a reunion going in Bournemouth.  When he passed away, Jill decided to keep up his good work, by gathering together many who were unable to attend the Hatfield Reunion.  It has now become part of our Social calendar, and a very good event it is. The hotel is very welcoming, and it is a nice weekend break. We are indebted to Jill for her commitment to us.
The Reading Group (incidentally this is the place not a book club!).
Meet at least three times a year and the gatherings consist of any year intake and presently cover from 1935—1952.
They also encourage Wives, Husbands, Partners, to join them, and in doing so, have found that many have more in common than going to Trinity.
They were pleased to welcome Rosemary Haxeltine (Langdon) and Helen Wigmore (Harrow) both 1951, together with their husbands, to the Summer gathering in July. Any Old Scholar is welcome to join this Group—if you want to be put on the mailing List, please contact Beryl Skinner on 0118 9730589.
NOW—A VERY SPECIAL DATE FOR YOUR DIARY—OCTOBER 14th 2006.
A provisional booking has been made at The Ramada Jarvis Hotel (Comet) at Hatfield Saturday October 14th 2006.
With the retirement of Charles Rolls who has looked after us so well in the past, we are very much in the hands of the new incumbent.  However, with such a long record with the hotel, we hope that we can negotiate a good deal. We will need your early reply when we finally agree rates etc.
The 1951 Club
We were very pleased that Kemal Ghafur has come on board as co-ordinator for this year. Already he has held a gathering for Peter Hamblin at the Whitewebbs Hotel at Enfield, and is now planning a similar reunion for Anne Pilling (Meakin) sometime in 2006.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Kemal on 01992 462471.
The 48’s
This year we have been particularly fortunate in having Volunteers come forward to organise class events, and one of these is Roger Pye. If you are interested in attending an event which Roger will organise.
Contact him on 01908 542440. Or if you are an amateur radio fan his call sign is G41UH
The 1954’s
Keverne Weston held a 1954’s reunion, but unfortunately only six people were able to attend. Hopefully there will be better support for a future gathering.
The 58’s
Once again Anne Flanagan is organising her group get-together—no special date fixed as yet but she tells us that most of them will be celebrating their 60th birthdays in 2006 or 2007.  Seems a good enough reason to celebrate. She can be contacted on 01425 616483
Last but not least-The North London Group
Monthly lunch held at Enfield Town Club, Old Park Road, Enfield on the 3rd Monday in the month. All year intakes are welcome. Ring Reg Rogers if you would like to join them. 0208 440 2646 is the Number to ring.
People News
These 37’ers are something else
John Guthrie (37) celebrated his 80th birthday in style.  John now lives permanently in Turkey, and he paraglided with his Israeli grandson and five supporters from Mountain Babadag.  This is half as high again as Ben Nevis.  The descent took 35 minutes to sea level.  Take off failed on his first attempt as there was not enough lift, and he fell in a heap at the mountain edge ! (No good if you are afraid of heights).
There were 65 guests at his party, with half from England – he is now in the process of planning his 85th.
Have you a Heart-Throb ?
Peter Leighton (1936) has.  In fact he is the Secretary of Heart-Throbs Cardiac Support Group operating in the borough of Enfield and adjacent boroughs.  Heart-Throbs has been in operation since 1990, giving help and guidance to many hundreds of people living in these boroughs, who have been affected by heart disease and who want to return to a more normal and active life. If you want more details on its activities, you can telephone Peter on 020 8886 6260 who incidentally runs the exercise group which operates at the David Lloyd Club in Enfield.
The group is affiliated to the British Heart Foundation.
From the “Sunshine State”
Here’s some news worth repeating from Sandra Burford (nee Rawle) 1954. who moved and is now living permanently in Florida.
She writes: Recently spent Thanksgiving with my old school friend Jacqueline Guffey(nee Smith). Jacqueline is living it Tampa Bay in Florida and I now live only about an hour away in Lady Lake. Thanks to Richard McDermot who helped me trace her. I managed to find Jacqueline because Richard told me that he had heard she had married and now lived in Tampa. That helped but as her surname, when I knew her, was Smith that proved an impossible task. However he was still in contact with a neighbour of her parents. They said her mother had moved to Tampa with her but had died in Tampa the previous year. I then used the internet to scan all the obituaries in the Tampa newspapers for the previous year and eventually found her. Jacqueline was mentioned with her new surname as the surviving daughter. I then asked an old boyfriend, who lives in Tampa, to look through the telephone directory and hey presto that’s how we met up. How I found the old boyfriend is another story!! (Watch this space)
The Strongest Link ?
John Turner (1949) writes.  My dad was at Trinity from around 1919 and I remember him say that he had been there with Jack Hawkins (I remember the actor coming to the school and speaking to us).
I got to Trinity by default really. The first comprehensives were being piloted in 1949 and Mount Grace School at Potters Bar was one of those selected for this. All junior school leavers were due to go there but some relaxation was made after protests by a number of parents (not mine by the way) and it was decreed that if either of your parents had attended a grammar school within the catchment area then the child would be allowed to sit the 11+ and be considered for that school only.
I can recall him being amazed that the name of Dr. Jones was on the foot of the letter offering me a place as he had been the headmaster when Dad left.
Strangely this did not take into account that the school had only gained 'Grammar' status long after the parent had left.
Not of much interest really but as you see the family link goes back over 85 years
Editors Note - I think this is very interesting

HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers.
This includes age, weight and height.
Let the doctors worry about them.
That is why you pay "them!"
2.  Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches      pull you down.
3.  Keep learning.
Learn more about the computer, crafts,
gardening, whatever. Never let the brain        idle.
"An idle mind is the devil's workshop."
And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

                                 .more to follow....

AND FINALLY
I make no apologies for the fact that some of these items are already on the website. However, many old scholars do not have access to this, and because of the support we have received, we are now able to send more news of what is happening more regularly.
This newsletter is an exact copy of what has been sent to every "paid-up" Member.
We need your stories.and if you are not a member - please support us by joining now. (see link below - we are cheaper than Friends Reunited)

From your Committee - we hope you have the Christmas you would wish for and a New Year you will want to remember.
