It hardly seems possible that a year has gone by with another Old Scholars reunion at the Ramada Comet Hotel under our belts.
Some 56 Old Scholars together with their guests enjoyed the convivial atmosphere, saddened only by the news that Don Grammer and his stalwart helper Reg Rogers have decided to step back from the organisation and running of the Association.
The need for re-thinking on the future has prompted this decision, and Don with his usual forethought on most matters approached members of the Reading, Bournemouth and the 46’ers groups, to format the way forward.
After sumptuous food and drink, Derrick Ball thanked Don, Reg and the founder members for the work they had put in to get the organisation up and running, and its success over the past 11 years.
Beryl Skinner (Reading Group Co-ordinator) was pleased to explain briefly what the future held and, at the recommendation of the “Ad Hoc Committee”
proposed:
“That in recognition of their hard work in the past the following should take place”
President and Life Member Don Grammer
Vice President and Life Member Reg Rogers
Life Members
Yvonne Grammer
Roy and Audrey Augood
Joan and Ron Bates
John Snellgrove
Janet Smith
Sir Ernest Harrison
And not forgetting
Derek Richell
who resides in California, and is responsible for the database we now use, and getting this website up and running.
The proposal met with unanimous assent, as did the collection of the new Membership Subscription of £5.00. (See The Way Forward)
Business for the evening over, the sociality’s continued, with many members chatting until the early hours of the morning. It was particularly nice to see once more, our oldest scholar Dinah Ireland (27) together with her daughter. She is already looking forward to next years gathering.
